PRODUCTION AND PROMOTION
Promoting during key production windows helps maximize both sales and volume, notes Jarrod Snider, director of sales – onions for Richter & Co. Inc. in Charlotte, NC. “Memo- rial Day and Independence Day promotional windows usually accomplish both objectives for
the retailer, the grower and the end consumer.” Large displays and cross-promotional opportunities increase onion visibility, volume and ultimately incremental sales, Snider has found. Onion relishes, other similar vege- table items used for grilling have proven to be popular promotional tie-ins, according to
Snider. “Zucchini, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, etc.,” all work well.
Recent merchandising contests in stores have helped move more product, he says. “Creative displays combined with signage, photos and prizes drive enthusiasm and volume during peak production windows.”pb
