MIDWEST DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES CONSOLIDATE TO FORM FRESHEDGE
F&P Foods of Indianapolis and Get Fresh Produce of Bartlett, IL, have launched a new company, called FreshEdge, which will be home to a collection of industry leading produce
and specialty food distributors, fresh-cut operations and a USDA kitchen. It
includes Piazza Produce, Get Fresh Produce, Indianapolis Fruit, Papania’s, Garden Cut, Just Cut and Cibus Fresh. The consolidated entity is one of the largest independently owned fresh food distributors in the country, serving more than 2,000 customer locations across 18 states and
distributing more than 30 million cases of fresh produce, proteins, specialty processed produce, USDA certi ed grab-and-go offerings and specialty foods annually. FreshEdge will be led by industry veterans Steve Grinstead (The Grinstead Group) as chief executive of cer and Greg Corsaro (IF&P Foods) as presi- dent and chief operating of cer.

tions. “David’s experience is
tailor-made for this business going
forward,” said Lloyd Frates, a
principal with Renewable Resources Group (RRG), the investment  rm that acquired Sun World in 2013. To help direct the new Sun World growth strategy, Jeff Jackson has joined Sun World as executive vice pesi- dent for business development. Jackson has served in senior management roles at Chiquita, Moraitis, Earthbound Farms and Tanimura & Antle.

POWER YOUR LUNCHBOX INITIATIVE
ALIGNS WITH NINE PRODUCE BRANDS
Produce for Kids, Orlando, FL, has launched its Power Your Lunchbox campaign that runs through Sept. 22. Produce For Kids is working with brand partners that are committed to providing 180,000 meals to Feeding America’s programs that impact families and children, largely through sharing the hashtag #PowerYourLunchbox. They are: Bee Sweet Citrus, Crispy Green, GROW Bananas, Litehouse, NatureFresh Farms, Pero Family Farms, Shuman Farms’ RealSweet, Wholly Guacamole and Zespri Kiwifruit. Aside from the group’s push on social media platforms Instagram and Twitter, retail dietitians are invited to join in on the efforts by downloading materials from the Produce for Kids retail dietitian focused online hub for use in stores.

BEGINS YEAR OF LEARNING
The 12 new members of United Fresh’s Produce Industry Leadership
Class 25 kicked off a yearlong program of training for the next steps in their careers. The class is engaging in leadership development opportunities and meetings with industry members in California, including Mission Produce, Deardorff Family Farms, San Miguel, Bayer Crop Sciences, Duda Farm
Fresh Foods, Limoneira, Sunkist, Grimmway Farms and Wonderful Citrus. Class 25 members include: Fernando Aguiar, Naturipe Farms, LLC; Aly Ahnert, Fresh Start Foods; Canada, Ltd.; Peter Barone, Star- bucks; Frank Camera, SunFed; Annie Faller, Gold Coast Packing Company, Inc.; Craig Fields, RPE, Inc.; Bobby Grinstead, The Grinstead Group, LLC; Martha Hilton, Wegmans; Marc Newman, Capital City Fruit Company, Inc.; Stephanie Pharris, Duncan Family Farms, LLC; Jennifer Pulcipher, North Bay Produce, Inc.; Oliver Sill, Columbine Vineyards. The program culminates in June 2020, with graduation at the United Fresh Convention & Expo in San Diego.
