Finding work-life balance. It’s not easily achievable these days, as many employees have to work overtime and even side jobs, leaving little time for personal enjoyment.
But Shane Figini has found that balance at Sysco, where he began his career in the repack department 20 years ago ... and never had a reason to leave.
“Sysco is and will continue to be a preferred work place,” he says. “I love my job, and also love the relationships that I’ve built in my posi- tion. Sysco has allowed for that to happen — and I’m thankful for that. The bene t of continuity and staying at my job has allowed for consistency in my personal life, too. I’m able to spend a lot of time with my family.”
Figini, whose passions include spending time with his wife and daughter, playing basketball — and yes, procuring produce
— has carved out a steady, gratifying career at Sysco. He has held buyer and produce manager positions for the past ve years in both Portland, OR, and Spokane, WA.
Buoyed by the cool, crisp outdoor life in the Paci c Northwest and a very cool job, Figini says his two decades in produce have given him a deep appreciation for the industry and those he works with.
“The love of the job wraps around the seasons — it’s fun to get excited for new harvests of produce based on the time of year. It’s great to communicate with my sales team and get them to rally around these new crops.
“I’ve had the chance to work with a lot of great individuals. What I have found from all of these folks is their work ethic, and how important their craft in this business is. The examples they’ve provided over my career has made me a better person — both at work and my personal life.”
He has been reading Produce Business “for as long as I can remember,” and says “The magazine is great for introductions to new, cutting edge items.”
