It didn’t take much coaxing to lure Matt Burrows to Litehouse, Inc. After all, he grew up just a stone’s throw from the company’s headquarters in Sandpoint, ID, a place he calls “the best small town in America.”
Burrows recently celebrated his nine-year anniversary with the company. As director of corporate nance and accounting, he helps ensure that the nancial health of Litehouse (and much more) is sustainable for its 1,100 workers.
“What really drew me to Litehouse was the culture and the employee-owner mentality,” he says. “We are like a family in that it’s not about you and your growth but about the company and growing it together so that we all can bene t in retirement and continue on to the next generation of employee-owners.
“The most rewarding part is helping others achieve their goals and giving them insight. It
might be helping them make a sound nan- cial decision or planning for future growth and the impact that will have.”
Aside from its unique employee structure, Burrows says life is good at forward-thinking Litehouse, which does more than just sell signature salad dressings to retailers. It also features freeze-dried herbs, award-winning blue cheese and Gorgonzola, caramel, dips and seasonal apple cider.
“I knew that I wanted to work for a company that provided a product that was impactful in some way,” he says. “Food can bring a family together, and I like being a part of a company that offers quality food products made with real ingredients that enhances your eating experience and are healthy for you.”
Keeping up with industry trends is often front-of-mind for Burrows, a reader of Produce Business for the past ve years.
“One of my jobs is to understand the future of the produce business so I can hopefully better forecast our growth potential and need to understand what is happening at the macro level across the nation. I get great information from our internal research team and sales team, but the outside perspective is helpful.”
