CHIQUITA REJOINS NATIONAL CANCER SOCIETY TO HELP SAVE LIVES
During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month,Chiquita is continuing its support of the American Cancer Society with a $150,000 contribution. Women are Chiquita’s largest audi- ence, accounting for almost 80 percent of the brand lovers’ base. Chiquita has launched its Pink Sticker program for a second consecutive year, and the campaign runs through Oct. 28. More than 200 million Chiquita bananas across the globe will feature pink ribbons instead of the iconic Blue Chiquita Stickers to increase awareness for the cause. In addition to Chiquita bananas wearing pink, the company and the ACS teamed up to feature healthy recipes on Chiquita’s website.

TURNS 40 AHEAD OF FRESH SUMMIT
The California Avocado Commission (CAC) has a special reason to exhibit at the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Fresh Summit event in Orlando: the organization is celebrating the start of its 40-year anniversary. At this year’s Fresh Summit, CAC will showcase its information via a two-story booth featuring an upstairs meeting room. There, the Commission will host visiting dietitians from the Produce for Better Health Foundation, as well as other meetings by appointment. New California avocado booth graphics will include highlights of CAC’s 40-year history and a sel e-friendly graphic wall showcasing California avocado advertising campaigns.“We will have the latest information about the 2019 crop and plan to share new data on the conventional and organic segments of the category as well as ideas for building customized marketing programs for next season with key retailers,” says Jan DeLyser, CAC vice president of marketing.

MEDITERRANEAN DIET TO BE FOCUS OF
NEW MASTER’S DEGREES
The University of Barcelona and The Culinary Insti- tute of America announced the creation of the Torri- bera Mediterranean Center (TMC), a joint initiative and new academic center focused on Mediterranean food, health, and culinary innovation. The Barce- lona-based partnership leverages the strengths
of two leading educational institutions to address vital public health and sustainability issues through expanded academic, professional, and business collaboration. The Center will work to preserve
and advance adoption of Mediterranean dietary patterns, focusing on connecting leading-edge food and nutrition research with culinary, agricultural, and business innovation. TMC is open to Mediterra- nean, European, and other international partners. The TMC is based at the Food and Nutrition Campus of the University of Barcelona at Santa Coloma de Gramenet. The Center offers two master’s degrees with a focus on the Mediterranean Diet.
